One-on-one sessions to help individuals with Ds reach their goals towards independence, empowerment, and daily life skills.

Description:

Offered by credentialed professionals including a Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, or Behavior Analyst, this one-on-one instructional program supports individuals with Down syndrome ages 4+ years in developing meaningful, personalized goals and building greater independence. Staff work with each client to identify challenges or barriers in their daily life and tailor instruction in the following goal areas:

1) Self-Empowerment

2) Safety Awareness and Self-Advocacy

3) Interpersonal Effectiveness and Effective Social Communication

4) Coping Strategies for Everyday Life Challenges

5) Managing Daily Tasks and Learning New Skills

Sessions are individualized and may include community-based instruction (within a 2-mile radius of the DSC Seattle campus), depending on the client's goals. A maximum of two sessions can be scheduled weekly, if the client has goals in more than one area (e.g., communication and adaptive skills).

Age Group:

4 years- Adulthood

When:

Semester 1 runs through the weeks of 9/22-2/6.
